Ruffians #5 & #6
Overviewed by: Paul Dale Roberts
Comments: Black and white comics with Scar a very cool animal character. Play an average game of dominoes, that becomes not so average after all. There is some superb drama in this story. Scar gets really roughed up by some tough guys and at times it's hard to watch. After being beat up so severely, he is comforted by a female beauty named Erin. If prison life scares you, well this story may scare you even more! In the April 6 issue, you have comic art with photographs. Scar meets his creator Brian Canini. Scar doesn't know who Brian is and accuses Brian of being a hitman. When Scar learns that Brian is his creator, Scar thinks first of God. Scar learns he is a bear and not a dog and that he was created to look like a teddy bear that Brian once owned as a kid. Scar asks his creator the ultimate question..."why do we have to die?" Scar is quite the character. Ruffians is a fun enjoyable read that will make you laugh and even cringe at some parts! It's a great page turner!

Comments: Well, there is a lot of stuff going on in Ruffians. You're introduced to a weird character named Black Jack. You meet the main character, a killer bear. I really mean 'killer'. Because this bear named Scar is a hitman. In the beginning of the story, he is whining about wanting a club sandwich. Then this Black Jack guy confronts Scar and I think something real bad is about to take place, come to find out they are friends and they discuss their whereabouts since the last time they saw each other. Scar talks about the dead bodies he has seen and someone asks if Scar is a mortician and another guy plays it up and says that he is an actual hitman. Scar may do the cartoon route when whacking a guy, by dropping an anvil on his head, like he did with Tony Marrazzi. The guy that heckles Scar, gets his wrist broken. The next installment you get Malt the gorilla, another hitman and he faces off with Scar that is holding a menacing gun. The next installment will give you some ultra-violence between Malt and Scar. The last issue delivers Black Jack. Black Jack is having a hard time with Scar, who keeps teasing him that he is a bad shot. Black Jack tells how he whacked Kipler, one of the baddest hombres in Texas. Scar says that Kipler was drunk and that is how he got whacked. Brilliant! Brian Canini delivers drama, action and great character interaction with Ruffians. In the midst of evil this can be profoundly entertaining and chilling at times!
